One of major trouble when broaching on the lathe-turned parts like shafts, pin, are too shallow depth of the pilot hole (shown “Z” in the pictures). The shallow pilot holes block broaching tools with pooled chips in the pilot hole which could not produce enough broaching length.
Longer depth of the pilot holes makes broaching process easier without pooled chips to produce the right broaching length.
